A carnivore lifestyle perfectly complements a lifestyle already immersed in body composition, performance and fitness. Whilst a carnivore way of life is still fairly new in mainstream Australia, it is already circulating with in the fitness and body composition industries.
Both strength and endurance athletes are thriving on a carnivore diet, including increased overall performance, improved recovery and faster healing from injuries. Athletes in the powerlifting, weightlifting, MMA, Crossfit, ironman, ultra-marathon, rugby, rowing, football and basketball fields are experiencing significant performance and achievements.
Studies on endurance athletes on a ketogenic diet (like carnivore) suggest a performance advantage, with rates of glycogen storage and replenishment matching those of carb-diet athletes after the 6-8 week adaption period. This study also shows there was no impairment of high-intensity continuous or intermittent exercise (lasting up to 25 minutes), maximal cardiorespiratory performance or autonomic nervous system (ANS) activity on a very low carb/ high fat diet. Essentially, there was no decline in performance during the diet transition/ adaption period.
